Overview/Project Accomplishments:
- Installing structural steel and metal decking on rotunda level.
- Installing Exhibit Hall structural steel.
- Installing MEP hanger inserts over the Institute and Theater.
- Forming and placing rebar for drive curb and gutter.
Spiral Stairs
The Spiral Stairs are currently being fabricated by AIP Partners based in Rotterdam, Netherlands (current pictures of the spiral stairs in the Netherlands (bottom left pictures)). AIP Partners is a part of shipbuilder IHC which utilized specialized technologies and machinery to fabricate the complex geometry of the spiral stairs.
The Spiral Stairs will be suspended from the Exhibition Hall steel and each stairwell will weigh approximately 83 Tons (83,000 lbs.).
The top segments of the stairs are scheduled to arrive towards the end of May 2023, with the next segments scheduled for June 2023 and the remaining pieces arriving in August 2023.
The Spiral Stairs are expected to be fully erected by early to mid-September 2023.
